The media has no shame. They do nothing to change public perception in their lack of integrity. The highest that trust and confidence in the American media ever went was in June 1976, when a combined 72 percent said they either had a great deal of trust and confidence in the media (18 percent) or a fair amount (54 percent). That year only 26 percent said they either had not very much trust and confidence in the media (22 percent) or none at all (4 percent).
Democrats were far more likely than Republicans or Independents to have trust and confidence in the media, according to Gallup. In the new poll, 55 percent of Democrats said they had a great deal or fair amount of trust and confidence in the media. By contrast, only 33 percent of Independents and only 32 percent of Republicans said they had a great deal or fair amount of confidence in the media.
The Gallup survey also showed that younger
Americans are less likely than older Americans to have trust and confidence
the media. Among Americans 18 to 49, only 36 percent said they have
a great deal or fair amount of trust and confidence in the media. Among
Americans 50 or older, only 45 percent said they had a great deal or fair
amount.
