Donald Trump Says Bowe Bergdahl Should Have Been Executed
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Thursday that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl should have been executed for leaving his post in Afghanistan. "We're tired of Sgt. Bergdahl, who's a traitor, a no-good traitor, who should have been executed," Trump said to cheers at a rowdy rally inside a packed Las Vegas theater at the casino-hotel Treasure Island. "Thirty years ago," Trump added, "he would have been shot." It was practically an aside in a litany of complaints at the end of a more than hourlong, free-wheeling speech that included a large dose of media-bashing and a claim that he was behind Rep. Kevin McCarthy's decision to drop out of the race for House speaker. Fox News

John Kasich On Social Security Cuts: 'Get Over It'
Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Friday that a New Hampshire audience member would "get over" cuts to Social Security payments as a result of his reform plan -- and the left is already pouncing on the comment. The Republican presidential candidate was asked about entitlement reform during NH1's "Fiscal Fridays" series in Concord, New Hampshire, on Friday, and he said it was something that would have to get done. "We can't balance a budget without entitlement reform. What are we, kidding?" Kasich said when asked about his opponents who say they won't touch entitlements. Kasich said he was part of the effort to reform Medicare and Medicaid in the '90s, and that he also had a plan to change Social Security so that initial benefits were lowered for individuals not yet near eligibility. Obama Administration Bans All Pork Products From Prison Menus
The federal Bureau of Prisons, a subdivision of President Barack Obama's Justice Department, has banished all pork products from the menus in all federal prisons, according to a report in the Washington Post. The government says it made the decision to do this because a survey showed that inmates do not like eating pork products. The Council on American-Islamic relations said “we welcome” the move by the government to deny pork to prisoners, but warned that it might spark “Islamophobia.” CNS News

California Governor Approves Bill To Help Immigrant Crime Victims
California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill designed to help undocumented immigrants who are victims of violent crime, by introducing time limits on law enforcement's response to their U.S. visa applications in an attempt to standardize police forces' uneven treatment of applicants. The federal government grants visas to undocumented immigrants who help law enforcement try to catch criminals. The so-called U visa allows the recipient to live and work in the United States for four years, but to apply, a victim must first ask local law enforcement to verify their cooperation. A Reuters investigation last year found vast geographic disparities in law enforcement approaches to this visa, with some agencies readily verifying cooperation and others stonewalling. Reuters

Lawyer Grilling Cosby Goes After Guys Who Hurt Women'
Oh, to be a fly on the wall when Gloria Allred grills Bill Cosby. The famed feminist attorney is said to be interrogating the 78-year-old comedian and Jell-O huckster under oath Friday about his alleged serial doping and groping of young women. She says no question is off-limits. A video camera will likely be rolling, but what it captures will remain under seal for at least the next 60 days. The lawyers have been told not to discuss it, and so the location of this highly anticipated face-off is a closely guarded secret. But it's no secret that Allred has been eagerly awaiting her moment with a man she views as a sexual predator. "Mr. Cosby, I'm really looking forward to seeing you in person at this deposition," she said recently on CNN, adding he "needs to get ready." CNN

Some Conservatives Quietly Campaign Against Ryan For Speaker
Some conservatives in the Republican party are sharpening their knives to keep Representative Paul Ryan from succeeding House Speaker John Boehner, even as they say publicly the election of the next speaker will center on reforms in the U.S. House of Representatives instead of the candidates. "The focus is on, in my opinion, not who is speaker, but the process changes we can put in place," said Representative Barry Loudermilk, a member of the Freedom Caucus made up of the most conservative Republicans in the House. At least one caucus member has outlined requirements a candidate must meet in order to win an endorsement in the speaker's race, and it is not clear if Ryan can pass the test. In recent days a quiet campaign has started against Wisconsin's Ryan, the former vice-presidential candidate considered the only House member able to gather enough votes to win the election. Reuters

Ebola Survivor Back In Hospital Suffers Lingering Hold Of Virus
British nurse Pauline Cafferkey is back in the hospital this week in serious condition with complications from her bout with Ebola in January. Like thousands of people are discovering in West Africa, Cafferty is suffering from the long-term effects of the highly deadly virus, which has infected more than 28,000 people in the worst epidemic ever seen, and killed more than 11,000 of them. Experts stress the risk to anyone else is low. "The tests that are used to [find the] virus detect the virus genetic material — its so-called genome — and detecting virus genome doesn't mean that infectious virus is present," said Jonathan Ball, a professor of molecular virology at Britain's University of Nottingham. Reports Find Reasonable Force Used In Tamir Rice Death
A white police officer was justified in fatally shooting Tamir Rice, a black 12-year-old boy who was holding a pellet gun, according to two outside reviews conducted at the request of the prosecutor investigating the death. A retired FBI agent and a Denver prosecutor both found Timothy Loehmann, the rookie patrolman who shot Tamir, exercised a reasonable use of force because he had reason to perceive him as a serious threat. The boy was described in a 911 call as a man waving and pointing a gun. The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office released expert reports Saturday into the November 2014 shooting. Among the three documents released is the Ohio State Highway Patrol's recreation of the scene where he was shot at Cudell Rec Center in Cleveland. USA Today
VOA VIEW: An unfortunate incident that could have been avoided if the black young boy had better parenting.

California Adopts Strictest Limits On Livestock Antibiotics
California has adopted the toughest limits in the nation on the use of antibiotics in healthy livestock, barring their routine use to prevent illness or promote growth.
Calling the overuse of antibiotics "an urgent public health problem," Gov. Jerry Brown announced Saturday that he signed the legislation. The bill, SB 27, will curb the overuse of antibiotics in livestock, which limits the effectiveness of the medicines in both animals and people and contributes to the spread of dangerous, drug-resistant superbugs. "The science is clear that the overuse of antibiotics in livestock has contributed to the spread of antibiotic resistance and the undermining of decades of life-saving advances in medicine," Brown said in a statement. Tropical Storm Nora Heads To Central Pacific; May Strengthen
Tropical Storm Nora is strengthening as it heads into the Central Pacific and could soon become a hurricane, though there is no current threat to land. The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm Saturday night had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 kph) and was moving west at 14 mph (22 kph). Nora was centered about 1,245 miles (2,005 kms) southeast of South Point, Hawaii. Forecasters at the center say Nora could become a hurricane by Sunday night. The storm currently poses no threat to land, however, and no coastal watches or warnings are in effect. Houston Chronicle

EPA Spends Millions On Military-Style Weapons, Watchdog Group Reports
The Environmental Protection Agency has spent millions of dollars over the last decade on military-style weapons to arm its 200 “special agents” to fight environmental crime. Among the weapons purchased are guns, body armor, camouflage equipment, unmanned aircraft, amphibious assault ships, radar and night-vision gear and other military-style weaponry and surveillance activities, according to a new report by the watchdog group Open the Books. Vargas Llosa: Trump Represents ‘Racism Of The Stone Ages’
Nobel Prize in literature winner Mario Vargas Llosa was interviewed by the Miami Herald’s Andres Oppenheimer on Oct. 3 before media leaders at the Inter American Press Association’s annual meeting in Charleston. Following are excerpts: Let’s start with the 2016 U.S. elections. Donald Trump is still leading the polls. Are you at all scared by the Trump phenomenon? No, I’m not scared at all because I don’t think there’s the slightest possibility that Trump could become the Republican nominee. That’s absolutely implausible, and even more so if he runs as an independent. The United States is a profoundly democratic country, and someone who represents so profoundly antidemocratic ideas as Trump can’t become president. But it’s sad to see that a figure like him, using racist demagoguery, has been able to draw enthusiasm from a sector of society, even though very minor, that identifies with the idea that immigrants are murderers, rapists and robbers who are attacking a pure, healthy, candid and legal society. It’s the ancient racism of the stone ages, which unfortunately is still around, even in the most advanced societies. Miami Herald

FCC To Consider Further Cutting Cost Of Calls For Inmates
The Federal Communications Commission is moving to further limit how much companies can charge for phone calls made from jails and prisons, capping rates on all types of calls. Two years ago, under pressure from the families of the more than 2 million people incarcerated in the U.S., the FCC voted to restrict rates on inmate calls made from one state to another. The proposed changes, likely getting a vote Oct. 22, would go further, capping rates on all local, in-state long distance, interstate and international calls beginning early next year. That would mean the vast majority of inmate calls would cost no more than $1.65 for 15 minutes. And fees and other costs, which in some cases have boosted calls to $17 to $25 for 15 minutes, also would be limited. Inmates' families usually are stuck with the bills and they and defense attorneys have fought for more than a decade for the changes. But phone companies have defended the costs, saying the calls require costly security features and some of the money generated is used for things like activities for the incarcerated. SF Gate

Donald Trump On The "Great Woman" Who Stole The Show At His Rally
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump had some kind words for the Hispanic woman who stole the show at his Las Vegas rally this week, telling "Face the Nation" in an interview set to air in full on Sunday that she's "become a very famous woman" since she offered an enthusiastic endorsement to him after being invited onstage. "She is a great woman," Trump said. "And it was all about People Magazine. I said, 'Yeah, I was on the cover of People Magazine.' She held it up....And she came onstage...she was all over the world. I mean, she could charge a lot right now for appearance fees." CBS

Many Americans Travel Abroad Without Key Vaccines
Ben Pratt is a frequent traveler and is planning a trip to India in January. He's getting his shots now to make sure he doesn't get sick while he's away. "I know friends that have been sick overseas, and I don't want that for me or my companions," he told CBS News. But new research shows many Americans are traveling abroad without taking this important precaution. According to a study presented this week at an infectious disease conference in San Diego, of the nearly 41,000 international U.S. fliers examined, 16 percent needed the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine -- but only about half of them actually got it. Iran Tight-Lipped On Post Reporter's Verdict
Iran's judiciary said Sunday that a verdict has been issued in the case of Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, who has been detained for more than a year on espionage allegations, but did not say what the verdict is. "The verdict has been issued," judiciary spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehi said in response to a question at a weekly news briefing, according to the official IRNA news agency. It was the first time an Iranian judicial official has confirmed that a verdict has been reached. Ejehi said the verdict can be appealed within 20 days. He said he did not know if the verdict had been given to Rezaian or his lawyer, Leila Ahsan. Calls to Ahsan and to Rezaian's wife, Yeganeh Salehi, were not immediately returned. San Diego Union

Cameroon Blames Boko Haram For Suicide Bombings That Kill 9
Cameroon's government spokesman says two teenage girls carried out suicide bombings in a northern village, killing at least 9 and wounding 29 others. Minister of Communications Issa Tchiroma Bakary blamed Boko Haram for the attack early Sunday at a food market in Kangeleri near Mora town. He said Boko Haram now uses young men and women for suicide bombings. He said Boko Haram is trying to spread terror, after pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group earlier this year.
Boko Haram is blamed for five coordinated suicide bombings in neighboring Chad on Saturday, killing at least 36 people. Attacks have increased recently in Nigeria's neighboring countries that are helping fight the extremists. Amnesty International says the Nigeria-born Islamic extremist group has killed about 20,000 people in its six-year uprising. Kansas City Star

Would Rand Paul Pardon Edward Snowden?
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul believes Edward Snowden deserves some punishment for leaking classified documents about government surveillance, though he says it should be less than what some of his fellow Republicans have called for against the former National Security Agency worker. During the convention of the Republican Liberty Caucus on Friday, a college student asked Paul whether he would pardon Snowden if elected president. The ballroom in Nashua, New Hampshire, quickly fell silent as Paul joked, "There's always got to be an easy question." Some libertarians have called for Snowden to be pardoned. Paul's own father and one-time presidential candidate, Ron Paul, has praised Snowden in the past and supported a petition asking for clemency. ABC

Kim Jong Un Vows N. Korea Ready To Counter Any US Threat
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un took center stage at a military parade and mass rally in Pyongyang on Saturday to mark the 70th anniversary of the country's ruling party by declaring in a rare speech that the North has no intention of straying from the socialist track established by his grandfather and is ready to stand up to any threat posed by the United States. With the eyes of the world upon him, Kim, the youngest and most enigmatic head of state, confidently and firmly delivered the speech from the balcony of the palatial People's Grand Study House as tens of thousands of his countrymen and an unusually large international media contingent watched from their places below on the capital's iconic Kim Il Sung Square. U.S.-Europe Trade Accord Draws 250,000 Protesters In Berlin
A protest over a proposed U.S.-European Union trade agreement drew an estimated quarter of a million people to Berlin on Saturday to complain the deal may cost jobs and erode environmental protections. The turnout “significantly” exceeded expectations, according to a statement by organizers backed by more than 170 German labor unions, nature conservation lobbies, charities and other groups. Protesters walked from the capital’s main railway station and passed near the parliament building.
Protesters gather to demonstrate in Berlin on Oct. 10. Some Europeans are concerned the trade pact will reduce food or environmental standards, endanger jobs and undermine governments. Advocates say the agreement will increase exports, helping to fuel economic expansion after the financial and sovereign debt crises eroded wealth and caused banks to rein in lending. Bloomberg

'Blue Lives Matter' Billboards Pop Up Across USA, Stir Controversy
Activists focused on eliminating racial profiling, police brutality and officer-involved killings have chanted, tweeted and held signs saying #BlackLivesMatter for more than a year as the nation debates criminal justice reforms and people of color. Now, Louisiana-based Lamar Advertising has donated more than 150 company-owned billboards nationwide to a new campaign to put the slogans #BlueLivesMatter and #thankublu in public spaces, WXMI-TV and other outlets report. The billboards have already shown up in Memphis, Tenn., Toledo, Ohio, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Hartford, Conn. "We wanted to recognize the local police departments and men and women that put their lives on the line every day," Stephen Hebert of Lamar Advertising told WVIT-TV. "I don't know how they do it, and we just wanted it to be part of the community." USA Today

Lower Gas Prices Means No Social Security Increase Next Year
For just the third time in 40 years, millions of Social Security recipients, disabled veterans and federal retirees can expect no increase in benefits next year, unwelcome news for more than one-fifth of the nation's population. They can blame low gas prices. By law, the annual cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, is based on a government measure of inflation, which is being dragged down by lower prices at the pump. The government is scheduled to announce the COLA — or lack of one — on Thursday, when it releases the Consumer Price Index for September. Inflation has been so low this year that economists say there is little chance the September numbers will produce a benefit increase for next year. Prices actually have dropped from a year ago, according to the inflation measure used for the COLA. Charlotte Observer

Lawyer For Relatives Of Germanwings Victims May Sue In US
A lawyer representing more than three dozen families whose loved ones were lost in the Germanwings plane crash in March says his clients want to sue for compensation in the United States, where courts could decide upon much larger settlements. German lawyer Elmar Giemulla told the dpa news agency on Sunday that he met with 100 family members on Saturday, who agreed he should go ahead and pursue legal action in the U.S. Prosecutors believe the Airbus A320 was intentionally crashed by its co-pilot, killing all 150 people on board the Germanwings Barcelona to Duesseldorf flight. Huckabee, At Border, Says Extend Fence
Here’s a pro tip for anyone who might be considering a job as the leader of the Department of Homeland Security if former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee becomes president: Start looking at homes in Laredo, Texas. That’s where Huckabee, in San Diego Saturday for a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border, said he would dispatch the cabinet-level official in charge of border security agencies, to send a message that the entire 1,900-mile southern border has to be more secure. “One thing I would do is deploy the director of Homeland Security to Laredo, Texas, with his family and say, ‘This is where you are going to be stationed until this border is secure,’” Huckabee said after the two-hour tour along the heavily fortified border between San Diego and Tijuana. “So get with it. Let’s get it secure. And when it’s secure, then you can move somewhere else.” San Diego Union

Donald Trump, Brash New Yorker, Picks Up Southern Campaign
Donald Trump is a brash New Yorker who knows the path to the Republican presidential nomination runs through a swath of Southern states where residents pride themselves on graciousness and gentility. He leads many state polls in the region just as he does nationally. In the last few weeks he’s hired staff members in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia to go along with staff in South Carolina, which hosts the South’s first primary. “It’s almost like we’re running a campaign for president of the United States,” quipped Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski when asked about the expansion. 'Holy Grail' Seen As Gene Drug For Blind Produces Lasting Effect
A gene therapy maker showed this week it could make blind children and adults see. But the big question left is how long the effect will last. Much depends on the answer, including how much the company can charge for the drug -- a price tag some say could be more than $1 million a patient. On Saturday, the Philadelphia biotech firm, Spark Therapeutics Inc., reported encouraging data on that front. Spark’s gene therapy, which treats certain rare inherited eye disorders that cause blindness, has maintained for three years the improved vision of patients who completed an early-stage trial, the company said. House Republicans Asks: Can Anyone Lead Us?
The job of leading House Republicans may have gone from difficult to impossible. After two tumultuous weeks that saw the current speaker announce his resignation and his heir apparent abruptly pull out of the running, House Republicans are in disarray as they confront a leadership vacuum. And the only person widely deemed fit to fill it is a lawmaker who says he doesn't want to, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and the party's 2012 vice presidential nominee. Even as they plead with Ryan to reconsider, Republicans are left asking themselves whether anyone can lead them. And even if Ryan does yield to their entreaties, some question whether even he could tame a House GOP that seems fractured beyond repair, with a "hell no" caucus ready to risk crises and government shutdowns to achieve its goals and establishment-minded lawmakers seemingly powerless to do anything about it. Obama Will Be The Only Person Sticking To Iran Deal
Sometime this week, President Obama is scheduled to sign an executive order to meet the Oct. 15 “adoption day” he has set for the nuclear deal he says he has made with Iran. According to the president’s timetable the next step would be “the start day of implementation,” fixed for Dec. 15. But as things now stand, Obama may end up being the only person in the world to sign his much-wonted deal, in effect making a treaty with himself. The Iranians have signed nothing and have no plans for doing so. The so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has not even been discussed at the Islamic Republic’s Council of Ministers. Nor has the Tehran government bothered to even provide an official Persian translation of the 159-page text. The Islamic Majlis, the ersatz parliament, is examining an unofficial text and is due to express its views at an unspecified date in a document “running into more than 1,000. NY Post

Clinton’s Camp Says She ‘Could Have A Serious Meltdown’
Hillary is furious — and while Clinton advisers think that may save her, it’s making the lives of those who work for her hell. “Hillary’s been having screaming, child-like tantrums that have left staff members in tears and unable to work,” says a campaign aide. “She thought the nomination was hers for the asking, but her mounting problems have been getting to her and she’s become shrill and, at times, even violent.” In one incident, Hillary berated a low-level campaign worker for making a scheduling mistake. When the girl had the nerve to turn her back on Hillary and walk away, Hillary grabbed her arm. Hillary’s anger may be stoked by fear — her poll numbers have slipped by 10 points in one week on the eve of the Democrat debate. NY Post

Obama Urges Supporters To Stay Engaged, Says He Will Too
President Barack Obama on Saturday encouraged supporters to be politically active, saying that he plans to remain so when his presidency concludes and declared, “I’m just getting started.” Obama was in California for four fundraisers, one in San Francisco and three in Los Angeles. NBA star Stephen Curry and other members of the Golden State Warriors warmed up the San Francisco crowd. Those attending the Democratic National Committee fundraiser paid between $250 and $10,000.
Obama has been using his fundraising speeches and many others these days to point to progress he said the country has made during the past seven years, including a drop in the unemployment rate and the addition of millions of people to the rolls of those with health insurance. The president told the 1,000-plus people attending the fundraiser in San Francisco that Republican candidates seeking to succeed him are painting a dismal picture for voters. Seattle Times

Sanders Stresses Gun Control, Calls For Assault Weapon Ban
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on Saturday called for an assault weapons ban in his second straight day of talking about an issue — guns — where he has sometimes deviated from the Democratic Party's consensus. In a campaign appearance ahead of next week's Democratic presidential debate, Sanders cited two shootings Friday at universities in Arizona and Texas as well as last week's slayings at an Oregon community college. "Instead of people yelling at each other, we have got to come together on commonsense approaches which, in fact, the vast majority of the American people support," said Sanders, who represents a rural state with few gun laws. He added that there is "widespread support to ban semi-automatic assault weapons, guns which have no other purpose but to kill people." Tampa Tribune

Conservatives Flex Muscle In House Speaker Race – But What Do They Want?
Grassroots conservatives are doing a victory lap after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy abruptly withdrew from the speaker race – but whether they can come together behind a consensus candidate and a common agenda remains to be seen. What exactly these groups and lawmakers want in a new leader, and whether they’d back somebody who also has favor with the so-called “establishment,” is the big question as the House postpones leadership elections. In a series of interviews on Friday, representatives with several influential conservative groups told FoxNews.com they’re looking for a candidate who speaks to their values. Specifically – while their stances are not monolithic – they said they want to see someone who will “hold the line” on budgetary spending caps. Some also want to see more done on tax reform, an often-discussed goal that has never materialized into real action, as well as regulatory reform and efforts to rein in agencies like the EPA and IRS. More Rain Coming As South Carolina Recovers From Massive Flood
After four dry days, rain returned to South Carolina Saturday — but not in the record-breaking amounts seen last week that caused devastating floods and left nearly 20 people dead. Iraqi Officials: Attacks Across Baghdad Kill 8
Iraqi police say a series of attacks around Baghdad has killed eight people and wounded nearly two dozen. The deadliest attack Saturday took place in the eastern neighborhood of al-Shaab. A police official says a sticky bomb inside a microbus killed three people and wounded seven. In Husseiniya, a suburb of northeastern Baghdad, a police official says a roadside bomb near a crowded marketplace killed two people and wounded nine. Two more people were killed in the southwestern neighborhood of Arab al-Jabour when a roadside bomb hit Sunni tribesmen patrolling the area. Police say one person was killed in al-Mohshahida neighborhood when a roadside bomb hit a military checkpoint. Las Vegas Sun

Calls For Justice Echo Again On National Mall
Thousands of black men, women and children gathered on the National Mall on Saturday to demand justice at a time of growing anger and fraying tensions in African American communities over the killings of young black men by police. By noon Saturday, the crowds had swelled just beyond the stage at the west front of the Capitol, with onlookers watching on several jumbo screens. Some people sat on lawn chairs and others on blankets to listen to the speakers, including Minister Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam, which sponsored the "Justice or Else" rally. The event marked the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March in 1995, when hundreds of thousands of black men rallied on the Mall in a powerful protest. Although Saturday's crowd was far smaller, the spirit of the first movement was echoed by those who addressed the audience. Philadelphia Inquirer

Now It's The Democrats' Turn To Debate
Vice President Biden's pending decision whether to enter the Democratic presidential race is overshadowing the five actual candidates, who are rehearsing, reading fat briefing binders, and consulting policy experts as they prepare to meet Tuesday in Las Vegas for the party's first nationally televised debate. CNN is saving a spot for Biden on the debate stage, but the vice president is not expected to attend. Biden has been considering a third try for the White House, which has been portrayed as the dying wish of his son Beau, who succumbed to brain cancer in May. Front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton comes into the debate battered, fighting a perception that she is untrustworthy and still is trying to articulate a compelling rationale beyond inevitability for her six-month-old campaign. She has been losing ground to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who threatens in the early voting states of New Hampshire and Iowa. Philadelphia Inquirer

Runner's High Similar To Effects Of Marijuana
The high reported by runners, generally ascribed to endorphins, was found by researchers in Germany to be caused by endocannabinoids -- suggesting it is similar to the high people experience after consuming marijuana. Endorphins, natural chemicals produced by the body, have pain relief qualities similar to morphine. During intense exercise, the stretching and tearing of muscles causes the body to increase endorphin production. To test this, researchers at the University of Heidelberg ran three experiments with mice to find which of the chemicals is responsible for runner's high. UPI

Russia And US To Resume Syria Air Safety Talks
Russia has agreed to resume talks with the US on air safety during Syria bombing campaigns, says the Pentagon. The talks "are likely to take place as soon as this weekend," said press secretary Peter Cook. There have been concerns that there could be an accidental clash as the two countries pursue separate bombing campaigns over Syria. The US and its Nato allies have also been alarmed at violations of Turkish air space by Russian jets. US and Russian officials conducted talks on air safety via video conference on 1 October, but the US had complained that they had heard nothing from Moscow since then. BBC

Turkey Terror Attack: Scores Killed In Twin Ankara Blasts
At least 86 people have been killed and up to 150 wounded in the deadliest terror attack in Turkey’s history after two explosions targeted a peace rally in the centre of the capital. According to the pro-Kurdish HDP party, the death total stands at 97. Twin explosions outside Ankara’s main train station on Saturday morning targeted hundreds of people who had gathered to protest against violence between authorities and the Kurdish militant group, the PKK. Turkish government officials said the explosions were a terrorist attack carried out by suicide bombers but no group has yet claimed responsibility. Obama Defends Controversial TPP Deal And Dismisse Secrecy Concerns
Three days after Hillary Clinton came out against the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, Barack Obama defended it in his weekly address. “Ninety-five percent of the world’s consumers live outside our borders,” the president said. “Ninety-five percent. They want to buy American products.” On Wednesday Clinton, the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, echoed concern on the left of the party when she came out against the deal in an interview with PBS, saying: “As of today, I am not in favor of what I have learned about it.” On Saturday, Obama continued: “They want our cars, our music, our food.
